The career of dentistry the
University of Chile, has a totally new curriculum for about 5 years, product of
this is that it has had a number of problems. For example, we have excessive
work hours, making us study 5 (Evidence-based dentistry, health promotion, simulations,
Diagnostics and English) subjects that have too many hours of
work that prevents us from performing well in all subjects. In addition, many
of these subjects are very badly organized and have been changing in the last
moments causing uncertainty and stress in us as students. As for the work
spaces within the university these are quite good in my opinion, however, they
do not have enough implementation within them, hindering the development of
activities. For example, patient simulators within preclinical laboratories or
are insufficient in quantity or are in poor condition, other times the pressure
of air or water is not sufficient for work and so other types of imperfections.
As for the theoretical teaching method this is common, however other ways could
be implemented to make the teaching more entertaining. Teaching practices
within the career, has several shortcomings, for example the work is little
personalized and often we do not learn in a way the techniques to be
implemented. In conclusion, the career of dentistry needs important transitory
changes, since its shortcomings directly affect the training of future dentists
in Chile. There is also a very important data on
the mental health of students who are pursuing the career of dentistry, much of
it is medicated to be able to perform the exigencies of dentistry, this event
should not occur in a healthy place of training.
